Dockery Farms is open year round and can be visited at any time. It can get quite hot in the summer, but the springtime and fall are beautiful and great times for a visit. Most of the farm's notable spaces are outdoors and can be viewed from the road, or by taking a walk across the property. You don't need special permission, unless you'd like to arrange a tour.

Dockery is about two hours south of Memphis, TN, and two hours north of Jackson, MS. Memphis offers the nearest large airport, and there's a smaller regional airport in Greenville, just 40 minutes away. There are many other blues-related attractions nearby, and you can follow the Mississippi Blues Trail through Dockery.
