Dockery Farms is open year round and welcomes visitors to this place that is entrenched in blues history. The site is open from dawn until dusk unless a special event has been approved for use later in the evening. Most of the farm’s notable spaces are outdoors and can be viewed by taking a walk across the property. You do not need permission to visit Dockery, but if you would like to arrange a tour, please contact Bill Lester at [email protected]. Fees for guided tours are $10 per person for individuals or groups, and a set fee may be approved for large groups. A 50% discount is available for school group tours.
A lot of time and expense goes into keeping up the buildings and grounds of Dockery, so we encourage visitors to make a donation of $10 to support our mission of ongoing restoration of the property. A theft-free box for cash and check donations is located with the sign-in book near the seed house, and you may also donate online through this link to PayPal:
All gifts are tax deductible through the 501(c)(3) Dockery Farms Foundation, and all donors with gifts above $100 will receive a letter from the Foundation to serve as a receipt.
Getting here:
Dockery is approximately two hours south of Memphis, TN, and two hours north of Jackson, MS. Memphis offers the nearest large airport, and there’s a smaller regional airport in Greenville, just 40 minutes away.
The widely followed Mississippi Blues Trail has a marker at Dockery named “Birthplace of the Blues?”, and there are many other Blues Trail markers in nearby Bolivar and Sunflower counties. Download the Blues Trail app through iTunes or Google Play to build your own itinerary or find content from each marker on the Trail.
Listed below are links to help you find events happening during your visit as well as other attractions. GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, located on the campus of Delta State University in Cleveland, is certainly worth a visit.
And remember, after you visit, share your photos and videos with us. If you post them to Facebook, Flickr or YouTube, make them public and tag them Dockery Farms and just send us a link.
